Becky VanLoon, National RFL Lead
OK - we got through those April Showers.
Now it's time to really watch those flowers grow!!
In order to grow those Relay Flowers, what do you do? You cultivate relationships. You ask other gardeners (metaphorically). Relay For Life is volunteer led, staff supported, so let's work with those other volunteer gardeners out there. If you didn't know yet, we have the Relay For Life Community
on Facebook that has an abundance of knowledge and ideas.
Do you need more help? Send me an email at [email protected]
and I can connect you with other gardeners (volunteers) that can help. I may not be able to personally do something for you, but I can get volunteers throughout the U.S., all the way up to the National level, that CAN and WANT to help, and I can connect you.
The Relay movement was built on volunteers doing, leading, and growing with ONE goal in mind.
The goal? Drive progress to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. You can do this! We can do this! Let's go and grow some more beautiful flowers!

The American Cancer Society Awards 128 New Research Grants
ACS is investing $80.7 million in new grants to fuel innovative cancer research.
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is pleased to announce a new investment of $80.7 million in new cancer research grants that will go into effect this spring.
Altogether, ACS is funding 128 new grants at 71 institutions across the country.
A full list of the new grants included in this slate can be found here.
“Strong science starts with strong ideas, and this slate reflects the creativity and rigor of today’s cancer research community,” said Dr. William Dahut, Chief Scientific Officer of the American Cancer Society.
“By supporting investigators at institutions across the country, we’re helping to sustain a research ecosystem that drives progress and expands what’s possible in cancer science.”
As always, ACS is committed to letting scientific experts in the cancer field guide our funding decisions at every step in the process.
Outside of a small number of dedicated RFAs issued in partnership with other organizations, the majority of our grant applications are investigator-initiated – meaning researchers come to us with their best ideas to advance the science of cancer prevention, detection, treatment, survivorship, and more. Our peer review committees are comprised of over 800 expert reviewers who are charged with helping us identify the most innovative, rigorous, and promising studies to move forward for funding.
Importantly, every grant application we receive is reviewed by our team of Community Research Partners to ensure that every project we fund will have a meaningful impact on the lives of cancer patients, survivors, and their families.

What is Gold Together?
An avenue to empower individuals and teams to raise funds that directly support research, advocacy, and patient support dedicated to childhood cancer.
How is that different from fundraising on a regular Relay For Life team?
When you fundraise money for Relay For Life, donations go to research in all areas of cancer research, advocacy, and patient support. When fundraising for Gold Together, donations are designated specifically for childhood cancer.
How can I designate a Gold Together Team?
1 – Start to register a team for your event (this should be the Team Captain)
2 – In the dropdown menu for “Company Affiliation,” select Gold Together
3 – You are a Gold Together team and you should announce your Gold Together status on your team page (in the description or Team name) and everywhere
Where can I learn more about Gold Together?
On ACSResources.org go Relay For Life (top bar), Gold Together is located under the “About Relay” dropdown menu OR here is a direct link: https://www.acsresources.org/relayforlife/goldtogether/
Keep watching
September 10th is Gold Together Day. So, keep watching for more information on ACSResources.
